The same storage unit costs wildly different amounts across one city.
Public Storage publishes a price for every location and never puts them
side by side. We do. Across 75 5x5 units in
Frisco, TX, the cheaper end of the market runs $9
and the dearer end $62 — for the same size, from the same
company, in the same city.

Every Public Storage location publishes its own rates. Nobody aggregates them, because
the company has no reason to show you that the branch two suburbs over is half the price.
We read those published listings, normalise the unit sizes, group locations into real
markets by distance, and put the numbers in one table.
Prices are re-read weekly and stored append-only, so the history builds up rather than
being overwritten. Rates that fail a data check are withheld rather than published, and
every page states how many observations it rests on and when they were taken.
Where these numbers come from. 52,892 advertised prices read from Public
Storage's own published listings across 4,617 locations, last checked
2026-08-12.
Online rate vs regular rate. Every listing publishes two figures. Measured across
thousands of observations, the regular rate is 1.5× the online rate at the
median, with 88% inside 1% of that and none outside 1.40–1.60×. That is a pricing
rule, not a second quote. The online rate is the promotional price for booking on the web;
the regular rate is what the unit reverts to. Budget on the regular rate.
Comparisons here hold the basis constant, so the gap between locations is real either way.
These are advertised rates for new rentals, not quotes — Public Storage states prices are
not guaranteed and they move with availability. Insurance, admin fees and limited-time
offers are not included.
